Talk 1: MAKING THE METAVERSE MAINSTREAM

“Metaverse” has become a popular buzzword, and its emerging trends have driven many to explore the realm of virtual reality. The concept is still new for many, bringing in endless possibilities for the future of this technology. As we enter into a new digital revolution era, Metaverse has experienced phenomenal growth, creating an immersive virtual reality and collaborative space to synchronize user experience. In this talk you will learn about the history of the Metaverse, and what improvements must be made on the current user experience, safety, and development of metaverse platforms in order to make it more mainstream.

SPEAKER: Chad Josewski is a 29 year veteran of computer graphics development. He has worked on everything from software and mapping technologies for the natural gas pipeline companies and the Department of Defense to AAA video games like Magic the Gathering: Arena, making documentaries for National Geographic, TV series for The Learning Channel and Discovery Channel, commercials for Yahoo and Facebook, and product development for Sony.
For the past 10 years he’s been primarily focused on XR development with major clients including Microsoft, The Department of Defense, Boeing, SAAB, Thyssen-Krupp, NASA, Amazon, META, Golder, Arthrex, The Smithsonian, The Pacific Science Center of Seattle, and The World Cup in San Francisco. In the Spring of 2022 Chad published 4 collaborative research papers in XR development for the medical device field in conjunction with John’s Hopkins University.

Talk 2: HOW TO ACCESS THE METAVERSE

While the full potential of the Metaverse has yet to be discovered, that doesn’t mean there aren’t plenty of ways to jump in and get a taste of what’s to come. For years, companies have been developing variations of their own “metaverse” environments, built around blockchain, cryptocurrency, and the global communities.
However, figuring out how to access the metaverse isn’t always simple. If you want to be one of the initial explorers discovering what the “embodied internet” could mean for the way we live and work in the years to come, you might need a little guidance.
Today, we’re going to look at exactly what you need to access various examples of “Metaverse” environments in 2022, focusing on some of the most popular options available right now.

SPEAKER: Evgeniya Simmons is a Metaverse world builder focusing on creating platforms for the travel industry. She has an extensive background in tourism and hospitality, working as an New York City’s destination manager, tour guide, and Tour Ambassador at the One World Observatory. Early on she realized that Extended Reality will make a great impact on every industry, especially travel. In 2019 she published her photographic guidebook “New York City Through a Tour Guide’s Eyes,” and developed an augmented reality app to go with the book. She is currently focusing on building worlds in AltspaceVR for various startups, and is working on her Virtual Reality platform VR Travel Expo with the goal of bringing together travel enthusiasts and travel brands in the Metaverse. She is the organizer of VR&AR of Southwest Florida meetup group, a founding member of Tech Alliance of SWFL, a member of XR Women, and Future Maker’s coalition.
