You’ve probably heard of the Bored Ape Yacht Club, right? If I say funny-looking ape visuals on colorful backgrounds, like this, does it ring a bell?

As a reminder, this collection was released in 2021, during a bull run. A community quickly formed around the collection, with nearly 7,000 holders at its peak for a collection of just 10,000 NFTs.

This number of hodlers is significantly higher than the average collection, which just goes to show the hype that Yuga Labs’ creation of the Bored Ape Yacht Club generated. To this day, the collection is still among the most traded on the market.

Sure, we can ask a million questions about the relevance of a pixelated ape collection, the excitement around it, and the staggering prices we’ve seen.

But at the same time, there’s a saying that goes, “where there’s money, there’s brains.” In other words, just because we don’t understand the price, collection, or what have you, it doesn’t mean there isn’t genuine interest.

Now, in the case of Yuga Labs, things were gradually becoming clear. They gather creative talents like few other companies can, even going as far as to acquire WENEW, a company founded by artist Beeple Crap, who sold an NFT for nearly $70 million.

The project we’re going to talk about today isn’t exactly new since Yuga Labs promised to send our favorite bipeds into the metaverse early in 2022.

However, in 2022, with the war in Ukraine, inflation, major crises in the crypto ecosystem, and everything else, the hype was gone. The “METAVERSE” narrative collapsed as quickly as the funds invested in Meta for its metaverse project.
