If you are living in Seoul, you no longer have to go to your local community service center in person to get copies of frequently used documents like your resident registration.
The city has become the first public institution in the world to launch a service that handles a range of administrative tasks in the metaverse.

You have just entered a virtual office of the Seoul Metropolitan Government.

Here you can consult with an official through an online chat.
The city of Seoul has officially begun handling a variety of administrative tasks in the metaverse.
It’s become the first public institution in the world to launch such a service virtually.
The metaverse office issues basic personal documents such as residential registration papers and vaccine certifications.
It also offers advice on filing income taxes and answers questions about property taxes.
Even the mayor’s office is open to visitors, who can freely make suggestions or propose ideas to improve the city’s governance.
“In addition to our existing inquiry channels, it’s another way to handle requests from the people.”
One of the services it offers is a youth mentoring program.
An animated avatar inspired by the famous children’s book ‘The Little Prince’ appears on screen, making teenagers feel comfortable opening up about their struggles.
There’s also a virtual tour program of the Blue House, Lotte Tower, Seoul N Tower and the capital’s other major attractions.
While officials are hopeful the new program will encourage younger people to engage with the government, they say they’re trying to find yet more ways to attract members of society who are less adapted to the digital transformation.
