Season 2 | Part 2. Episode 20 – António Baía Reis, Phd, VR artist.
The potential of the metaverse, a virtual world layered and merged with our ‘regular-verse’ is an entirely new scale of idea we’ve never thought of before. To get there we need to leverage all the expertise and subject matter experts (SMEs) from a wide ecosystem of thoughts, experiences, and skills.

How do the age-old artforms of acting and storytelling change when used in virtual environments? Is it cinema? Is it Games? Could it be more? It’s too early to tell, but it’s exciting as heck.

Whatever it may be, António Baía Reis, Phd, VR artist and performer who creates immersive experiences, wants our lives in the metaverse to be open, safe, and accessible to all people. As we witness the birth of a new medium for expression, the opportunity to integrate XR art with our current “analog” view is exciting, but challenging.

These formative moments and challenges make this moment the perfect time to examine AR and VR tools through the lens of our humanity and the rich, diverse experiences that bring joy, color, and culture to our daily lives.

António tells Nathan C that creating a meaningful, human centered metaverse is a chance to bring everyone to the table to co-create a new reality for all of us. By making things inclusive from the start, We ensure that what we make is meaningful for us, today and for the future.

While there are many experts in parts of the metaverse, this idea of our daily lives in a digital world is still too new for there to be real experts in what the entire thing will be.

And if we’re soon entering a multi-trillion dollar age of spatial computing there’s no better time to center human needs, bring everyone to the table and to connect as people and communities before we decide to rewire society in a purely digital age.
